so the mother in-law wants to go salty...
she has a 50 gallon freshwater now but would like a inexpensive (ha ha ) change. what are some suggestions or things i could do to change her tank. (equipment wise). I might drill but id rather put a canister filter on and call it good. she just wants some fish and probably some mushrooms. so a pc light should be good as well. any filter suggestions. I guess lots of live rock would also be a good idea.

you can do a canister filter and a hang on the back skimmer. Or you can get a overflow and have a sump if you dont want to drill it.

Yep i'd get the hang on back overflow box and do a small sump. It will cut down on algae in her display.
Get a koralia or two for water flow. Don't bother with any filters (waste of money). Get a cheap skimmer and mod the heck out of it (Seaclone150). Build a homemade canopy and put retrofit PC lighting in it. Get 50 pounds of liverock and your substrate "POOF" there you have a fairly cheap but efficent system for a beginner. |
