Is it possible to mix a yellow tang and a chevron in a 120G?
Hi all. I am really intersted in some of your thoughts. I recently lost a purple tang that I had succesfully been able to keep together with a yellow in my 120g (click on red house for pics)
Since then I have really wanted to do a tang display, I currently have a yellow, a blue hippo and a tomini.( The yellow seems to bother the tomini quite a bit) and I have been thinking of adding a chevron and then last adding a purple (since I had such good luck the last time around). My only questions are, would the yellow and chevron get along? considering they are both from hawaii, and do you guys feel that 5 tangs in a 120g may be too much? Do any of you have a chevron currently with a yellow? and if so, are they getting along? Any help would be greatly appreciated. ![]() ![]()

My advice is all from reading (extensively) but i can quite confidently say that you should not introduce a Chevron to that tank. IMO 4 tangs is already too much for a 120g. I am sure that some people have had success with 4 tangs in a 120, but i think it must be a delicate balancing act.
To be sure, they'd need to be introduced simultaneously or with the most aggressive of the bunch going in last. Tangs roam vast expanses of ocean to forrage. You can put a single tang in a 4ft long tank, but even that is kind of pushing it IMO (though i know that a 4ft tank is ok for a tang). Let me put it this way, i would put (at most) 2 tangs in a 180 gallon tank. That may be just me, but i try really hard to respect these creatures that we steal from nature. I wouldn't push the envelope too far. Get a 500 gallon (96"x48"x25") tank, before you start stocking it with lots of tangs. Just my opinion. |

YOu might try putting a nouri clip in different corners of the tank for each tang. Just a random thought. Not sure if it would work. But if you stuff them silly, and keep their feeding stations well spread out you may be able to delay or avoid altogether any fighting.

A Yellow and a Chevron get along very nicelly but... I really do not think that more than two tangs should be kept in a 120. 4 tangs is IMO two tangs too many already.
