Skimmers, whats a better deal!
I wanted to see what people think is a better deal.
I have a 150g main, with a 40g sump/ref. I need to chose from 2 skimmers, which would YOU choose. #1. A brand new Octopus DNW-200, Price $ $360.00 or.. #2. A used Euro-reef CS8-3, Price $380.00 Was owned for 3.5yrs and in use for 2yrs. So I hear. The stats on the skimmers are about the same, Both are 8" diam., 30" tall. DNW-200 is 1 pump, 750gph. CS8-3 is 2 pumps, 500gph X 2. DNW is a needlewheel, recirc. It will also need me to tap into my drain line to feed it. CS8 is 2 needlewheel pumps, not a recirc. And again the DNW is new. The CS8 is used, pumps could go bad. ER is a better quality. I think they are about equal its a tough choice. What do you think? |

The Octo is new. It will use less power with one pump. If you run it external no heat load. Don't be fooled about the quality of the Octo skimmers.
If you have some mechanical ability the Octo's really can't be beat for the price. Performance is easily increased with simple mods. Carl |

I think around 400 you can get the dasex2, which is 1000lph air at 43watts. Check it out, better than both imo. Its a recirc as well.

Actually this DAS is only 6" diam. & 27" tall. Thats smaller.
I cant find the pump GPH info or the air intake. So far i dont see this being a better skimmer. Last edited by RhinoPC; 10/26/2007 at 03:33 PM. |

size doesnt matter if you dont use it. the das ex-2 will easily out perform both of those. a das ex-1 is probably on par if not better too.
