are my turbo's retarded

at the mo i am constantly finding my turbo snails on their sides ( i asume hey have fallen off the glass/rock ) and they are getting eaten by my hermits . more often than not i manage to pick um up b4 they are eaten. but ive lost 2 in 4 days now. its getting to be a bit of a bugga. is there sumthing wrong with them/the water thats making them do this ?

Turbo snails are very sensitive to dinoflagelletes, I had an out break of them and lost all of my asterias and turbos. I too wondered if they were retarded, as they would fall on their sides and just lay there until I up righted them

You can help by pressing them against the glass or rock and they will restick but geanpool cleanup works for me.

I've wondered if all these snails flipping over happens in the wild.

Honestly, would these species even exist if they kept "dying" like they do in our tanks?

They're collected from rocky areas. They don't have any problems holding on to rock, and if they do get blown off, they can right themselves - no sand for them to get stuck in where they come from. Also, most Turbos are collected from colder water than what's in a reef tank, another unnatural condition for them to deal with.

i use a dowell rod and turn them over, not really that hard to figure out, ... I always keep an eye out though to make sure I fix them faster than anything can eat them

I read somewhere that snails rely on waves and currents to flip themselves back over in the wild. Not sure if this is true or not. Mine very rarely even leave my rockwork. I probably have to flip one over once or twice a year.

Not retarded...they're dying. I believe most Turbo snails sold in the trade are cold water species. Not used to the 78 deg water we have in our tanks. Just a matter of time before they're all dead.
