Do clove polyps break off alot

I have a pretty healthy colony of polyps and some will land on rocks and take root, other will hit the sand. I put them on the rock and they attach and spread. Is this normal for them to do this and is it a healthy sign ?

Yes, this is normal. You'll soon figure out that this is one of the reasons why clove polyps and xenia spread like weeds in a reef tank

I'm trying to keep them confined to a certain rock, proving to be difficult.
