Seagrass Wrasse for my frag system? adult or juvi?
Hi..
I am getting a wrasse for my frag system.....luckily for me, my LFS has lots of seagrass wrasses in stock....perfect! Only question is whether I should go for a fully grown (4" to 5" long) or juvenile (2" to 3"). Would the large one just create too much of a mess? (e.g turning rocks and frags over looking for food, eating and pooping too much, etc) I'm leaning toward the juvenile, but i've never seen such an amazing wrasse as the adult seagrass.....wow...i'd like to have him, but i dunno if my tank can accomodate him! comments? which one should i go for? The tank it's going in is a frag tank (85gal): 45"L x 22"W x 15"H Zach

Id stick with the little one- if any at all. As you noted, they are really destructive- throw things around, flip frags over, etc. They really arent particularly reef safe, they just enjoyed a brief popularity boost after someone figured out that they would eat montipora eating nudibranchs (along with most other invertebrates).
One thing to consider too, these fish really do best when they have a sand bed to dive down into, and are also excellent jumpers. Not really an ideal combination of behaviors for a frag tank.

I had a 3" seagrass wrasse in my old 58 for close to a year. Great fish, never harmed my shrimp or crabs. Found a hole in the back of the canopy and took a nap on the tile though.
