frozen fish
I left this weekend, and when I returned my heater had stopped and my fish were all stiff, the water temp was 55. My question, whats the best course of action? I removed all the fish, spiny urchin, and tuxedo urchin. My skunk cleaner, coral banded, snails, crabs, and maybe brittle star are moving now that the water is a few degrees warmer. Do i need to worry about toxins? WOW this blows!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, don't you run a house heater? 55 degrees is damn cold for a house.

Sorry to hear of your loss. Sometimes wild caught animals are a bit more resilient than captive bred but 55 degrees is a bit extreme.
Would be interested in knowing if it was a heater failure or a tripped outlet. Always hear about using 2 heaters (one for a backup) but if the circuit tripped, then both heaters would have been shut off. Hope your able to save a few of your animals. Mark |

Well hindsight is 20/20, and it will not happen again. I left the air on as it was a bit warm that day. when the temp fell way down, the house was already cool, and heater was working overtime I suspect and just gave out. So now I have two brand new heaters, 1-main and 1-back up. All the fish died, and a few soft corals so far. The water is extreamly cloudy due to all the death I suppose. So water changes and A almost complete startover are in order I guess, MAN THIS SUCKS A$$!!!!!!! I just hope nothing released toxins as it died!!! AND THE SAGA CONTINUES!!! Oh, by the way, that warmming tank was a good idea, thanks cpl40475.
