Mag drive 7 externally

I was just looking into whether or not you can run a mag drive pump externally? Anyone doing this? I thought I remember seeing that they could run wet/dry but then came across where they say they are not recommended to run externally? I have a knockoff mag 7 pump that I am using with my calcium reactor. I have been running it externally for about a month now.

Thanks for any help

I am running a mag3600 externally due to heat issues in the water column. The draw back is the noise.
