Overflow tubing consideration

Could anyone explain if the size fo the tubing for the drain affects how noisy the overflow will be? do I need to have much bigger tube size for a quieter oveflow or is it best to have the water level go higher this way no air is sucked with the water? I can always have another wider tube higher just in case the tube cannot keep up at some stage.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Yes drain size can lead to a noisy overflow, the size of the overflow piping will depend on how many gallons per hour your overflow is. Normaly for a 600 GPH overflow 1 inch works very well.
