what coral is this (no pic)
I went to a new lfs today and they had a coral I haven't seen before. It looked and grew like green montiporia cap but structure was very thick and the polyps were 1/4" long and waved in the current. any Ideas what this is?

Turbinaria most likely.

Maybe a type of Cup Coral like Pagoda or Turbinaria? Also could have been a type of Echinopora or Echinophillia (challice coral)

yeah, turbinaria sounds like a good guess. not all that many thick plates with that sized polyps
look up "Turbinaria peltata" as a starting point.

The polyps on this coral are all together not in small clumps like most fo the turbinaria I have seen. It looks like a plate coral to me (kinda) but the tenticals are short and it grows into one single large flat plate like a monti cap
