phytoplankton question.

when growing your own phyto do you need to top off the evaporated water from your growing vessel? i am stared the cultures on the upper limits of how much fertilizer you can add before it starts to hinder growth for the 10 day method. but after a few days the water has dropped a little bit and i was wondering if the stronger fertilizer solution would make the algae grow slower, or is it probably growing fast enough and up taking the fertilizer so that the evaporation push the fertilizer concentration level to a point where it hinders growth?
