fuge overflows

i am setting up a fuge on my 55 gallon that uses a powerhead in, gravity overflow out method...do i need to drill holes near the waterline in both the in and the out to prevent reverse-siphon overflow in case of power outtage, or just in the out?...thanks

The out shouldnt be a problem if its gravity fed... The in probably needs one if it is pumping up to the fuge...

You don't need to drill any holes if it's hanging out the main tank, if power goes out, water level will be at the same as the tank no spills on floor

If it's gravity overflow out of the fuge and into ??? ... then there is no possibility of overflow of the fuge during a power outage b/c the input (the powerhead) won't be running. Once the powerhead stops running the water level should balance out right below the line where the gravity outflow starts.

is it not possible for a reverse siphon to start since both pipes are under water in the main tank?

Maybe a picture or diagram of your setup would help us understand your concern a bit more.

I actually own the same item you are showing. I have the Large model hanging on the back of my 75gallon tank.

During a power loss the fuge will drain back into the main tank via the input side only until the water falls below the top of the baffle that separates the input tube's chamber from the middle chamber. Which is about 50% of its volume.
