on my old 72 i used a blueline/panworld. inexpensive, quiet, reliable. I sold everything I couldn't use on my 180 when I upgraded, but I loved that pump so much I kept it. It's sitting on a shelf in the basement waiting to be called back into action. I'll find a use for it, I'll never sell it.

Mag 5. Of course they can be hit or miss when it comes to noise but mine isn't bad since I suspended it from hose so it doesn't touch anything. Come to think of it, the pump has been running for a year and a half w/o cleaning. Should probably get around to that.

I have a mag 9 on my 75. No HEAT issues at all. Very reliable when set up properly.... Most of the time people have heat issues it is because they do not plumb the pump correctly... Mag 9 requires 1.5 inch piping to run at the specs stated...
Good Luck |

Eheim 1250 (317gph) for more, than 1 year - no problems, other than absence of rubber legs, and Ocean Runner PH 2500 now (650 gph without head loss), for a few months - no problems too.

I'm using an oceanrunner 6500... other than not taking US fittings, I love it.

90 isnt that much different then my 75.. what is it 4 inches or so taller? what kind of gph are you looking for is key.. alot of people love the eheims and i am not an exception.. i love it.. but there are many other good brands as well..
a 1260 would be pretty a pretty good choice here IMO.. keep in mind you arent supposed to get most of your flow from your return pump, alot of people try to run huge pumps on their sumps to get high flow in the main display and they are pushing 10x turnover plus.. at that rate the skimmer and if you run a fuge can not process everything as efficiently as if you were running a 3x turnover rate or so.. you want to get your tank flow from either eductors on the end of your return line or closed loops or powerheads.. thats just my opinion on it all and what i have learned throughout my couple years..

eheims seem to be the most reliable but not so got on power used. That is what is holding back at the moment. I figured my q1 3000 is giving about 450gph. It is failing and it seems alot of people have had them fail. I dont like mag pumps. So this seems to leaver ocean runner or eheims.

yeah the mag pumps.. they seem to be hit or miss.. i hear you def dont want to run them external, and sometimes they are loud sometimes they are quiet.. sometimes they heat up sometimes no..
ive heard both good things about oceanrunner and eheim.. i dont know what the wattage difference is but it wasnt a factor when i got the eheim..
