Sure, I have made a couple of them. I have access to all kinds of machine tools and I am pretty handy But I dont think I could make something as good as a Lumenarc. HTH

Hood Enclosure
You can purchase or make a hood enclosure (http://www.ahsupply.com/finished_enclosures.htm). Then you can purchase a T5 retrofit kit (http://www.reefgeek.com/lighting/T5_...Retrofit_Kits/) and install it inside the hood.

Easy to do. I have made quite a few. Take your time and you will not have any trouble. I just made one that I bent black plexiglass and mounted a reflector and 2 sockets in it. Looks great too!
