Regular Light Fixture with T5's?
I was snooping around the ol Reefcentral site last night and came upon and article that someone stated that they used T5's in a shoplight fixture they got from home depot. They claimed that this light fixture was capable of growing corals, and I could only assume they were softies. Please let me know if I can just buy a shop light to run a future frag tank, this would be MUCH easier on the pocket book.

obviously I would buy the T5 lights and put them in the fixture. But can the fixture run the t5's

hd does sell in a some location shoplights with t5s (im not usre if they are t5ho) but you wont be able to run t5s on a regular shop light. Ballast is different, pins are different, length is different.
Im going to HD tonite, I can let you know if they are regular t5 or t5ho. |

all T5s have the same set of pin, it's just the T5s we get will not work in regular ballast because they don't have enough wattage to fire it up, the regular ballast can go up to 39w as compared to 54w.
however, the regular bulbs at HD does not go up to 10K, they have daylight which is 6400-6500. some lightening stores does have actinic bulbs but then it's only 27-39w per bulb we are paying for it because there is a demand |

they make T5HO highbays...slap on some SLR's if there's room and you should be good to go.

I found this fixture from greybar which is an electrical supply store, it has T5's that are high output...Do you all this this would work.
