nitrate through the roof!
my nitrate is 250ppm! I have tested with salifert and red sea testing kit. I do 5gallon weekly water changes on a 29gal tank. I have 2aquaclear 150s one with chemi-pure and one with carbon and sponge. There is also a mj600 for water flow. Livestock includes royal gramma (which is hiding), yellow watchman, pistol shrimp, cleaner shrimp and black urchin. Also have nass. snails, turbos and hermits. My coral beauty is missing, but I have moved rock around and can't find him anywhere. I'm thinking my urchin may have eaten him. He's a big mo fo. Any suggestions???

how much lr do you have? i would take the sponge out or at least boil it and clean it. i have the ac 70 and i just keep lr rubble and i put in carbon once every 2 months maybe. i would also suggest you put some cheato in somewere even if its in your dt for a little while the macro will eat the nitrate and cheato doesnt root in anything, so you can justpull the ball out when you get it under controle.

None of those animals are going to be hurt by the nitrate, so it could be ignored. I'm not sure how much flow the AC 150s supply, but I would recommend two MJ-900 powerheads for that size tank, as a starting point. Less feeding might be appropriate, and a skimmer might do a lot, as well.
How did you do the testing? I didn't think those kits registered levels that high?
