Wink Lighting RO/DI

Hello Everyone,

I gotta say, I love this place! Everyone has been so helpful....Thanks!

My questions are as follow:

1.) I recently had a diatom attack. Very nasty one. I read through the forum but haven't really gotten a "for sure" answer. I'm pretty sure it's my fault that the attack happened. (over feeding and lighting). The question is, what is the appropriate way to feed my fish- I have 5 fish. 2 true percurla clownfish, 1 baby tang (blue) and 2 cromises. I also have 1 bulb anemone and 1 yellow tube coral. My cleaner is a red ring snail....he's such a trooper!

2.) I have a 150 watt 10,000k metal halide and 4 blue atts running for my lighting. I start the atts at 730 am and run them until 830pm. I run the halide from 830am until 730pm. Is the appropriate? Or should I change my lighting schedule?

3.) Reading on the forum I understand why the diatom attack happened. What is the easiest, fastest and most important, best way to get rid of the diatoms?

Thanks everyone!

welcome to reef central.
ok few major questions. what size tank is this?
the diatom attack happens to everyone.
you have 5 fish already? how long has your tank been established?
your gonna need a larger clean up crew than one snail i think
also your diatom bloom could be part of your 13 hour light cycle. cut it back to around 9 hours it should easy up ..

also water flow is very important to remove diatoms.
what kinda of pumps do you have?
also pix help!

Hi Zestay,

Thanks for the advice....

The tank has been established for nearly 4 months. It's a 44 gallon Pentagon aquarium. We just bought a 120 gallon long to upgrade to but that's not for about 4 months when our house is ocmpleted.

I'm not sure what you mean by pumps. Our flow is as follows. We have a Rena 3 canister filter and 1 powerhead. The Rena has a spray bar to move the top water and the power head moves the water below. It has great movement.

I am still very new to this so any and all advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks and Happy Holidays!
Joshua

p.s. do you think another snail will do the trick?
