RO unit

I was wondering about RO units. I found one at lowes and was curious if it would work.

You want an RO/DI unit, not just RO.

Can i not add a DI later? The only reason im doin it this way, is to have the stuff for drinking, plus i can use my lowes card. I need one soon but dont have the cash, and i have to drive 40 miles to get water.

I have heard you can do a softie tank with just ro, that you only need DI when you get into sps, is that true?

The Lowes Whirpool units do not use a standard 1812 series RO membrane so will end up costing more to upgrade or replace in the future.
Stick with some of the RC sponsors like:
www.spectrapure.com
www.buckeyefieldsupply.com
www.thefilterguys.biz
www.airwaterice.com
www.purelyh2o.com

All use standard replacements and quality components. A good RO/DI will cost between $160 and $230 complete including a handheld TDS meter, plumbing to hook it up and a pressure gauge. Stick with the units starting at about $160 as they use full size vertical 10" cansiter type DI filters that hold 20 oz of resin and filter well. Horizontal DI chambers hold less resin and do not work as well due to channelling or short circuiting.
