t5 vs pc

I have a 6-96w pc orbit fixture, I am looking a the new nova pro 12-39w t5 is this something worth doing? Am I going to see alot more light? thanks

You'll see about the same light. It depends on the reflectors -- try to get a fixture with individual reflectors for each bulb. You're reducing your wattage significantly, but the T5s are more efficient. It may well be a complete wash.

That said, I love my T5s.

I understand about the individual reflectors, but the price of the nova is good and the reflectors are not flat. I know there not the best. I just don't want to drop 600$ for the same light?

it's like anything else in this hobby you get what you pay for the Nova is ok nothing more if you then add mediocre bulbs like they come with or coralife even Giesemann's are just ok imo diffidently better better the coralife but I like ATI or UVL but any way it will be a upgrade but not like adding a tech or Aquactinics, ATI or other high end fixtures also if the Nova will last years or if you will be replacing in a year or two is another issue if it was me I would look for a used higher end fixture. that said it will for sure be brighter then PC

There are only two 72" t5 fixtures I have found, one is the nova 12-39w, and the other is the constellation 14-39w. I understand the constellation has better reflectors and 2 more bulbs but over $ 300 difference is to much. You get what you pay for is generally said by someone that payed to much no offense

I paid $850 for mine was used during Imac with all the bulbs you get what you pay for I stand by what I said talk to Grim Reefer in the Q&A he can give you specs and data.

look for the recent posting regarding the pro's par numbers...should be on par with tek. it will be much more light than your current PC set up.

also there was speculation that current improved their T5 bulbs...with that said i'd still look into upgrading soon after getting the fixture.

Im hopping to have this untill led prices come down, the way its going now I will have to wait a long time!

Im actually hopping currect bulbs aren't that good so I can use them to aclimate then switch to better bulbs
