Cleaning

my husband and I are cleaning our tank , trying to get ready for our local meeting and we would like to know how to clean the power heads they are very dirty. They are covered in coraline alage and brown algee any ideas???

I just bought a brand new one of these and use that to clean powerhead

I scrub with an old tooth brush.

(No,not my wife's)

It may not take off all the Coraline,but it does get off the dirt.

Soak in a water/vinegar mixture for a few hours. Rinsing and a little scrubbing will take off everything after this.

my husband confinskated my good pampered chef scrubber its nice it has a plastic scraper on the back and a brush on the front works great for $12 lol any thing for the tank

is white viniger ok?? how much water to viniger??

white vinegar is fine, it depends on how long you want to wait to get all the buildup off and how much vinegar you have lol.

A pure vinegar solution will dissolve all but the toughest coraline in an hour or so. I usually do 1:4 vinegar to water and leave it to soak overnight.

It should be part of everyone's maintenance schedule to soak your pumps and powerheads in vinegar and get the volute and impeller cleaned out every once in a while to prolong the life of the pump and increase efficiency.

should i only do one at a time then i dont want to leave the tank with out power heads do i ??? i have two reguler hydros and one vortec
