White Cheek Tang

Anyone have info on them? I think it would be a good fit for my 75 gallon, but don't know much about them...

believe it or not, not a hardy fish to say the least. Not even as hardy as a PBT. Plus way to active of a tang to fit in a 75 gallon tank. Why not try a bristletooth species like a kole or tomini tang?

If you do some hard research on them some say that they are just as hard as an achilles. Same skin conditions and very prone to ich.

If you are talking about Acanthurus nigricans, I had one for about 2 years. Got it from LA, was a great fish and healthy as a horse. I had read that they are suppose to be harder to keep then an Acanthurus japonicus, but mine was great and never had a spot of it.

I had it in my 75, but when I moved I took the chance to sell it to a local reefer who had a bigger tank. I am in the gray area about tangs in a 75, but with the Acanthurus, type I am against it.

Here are a couple of old and bad pictures of it when it was in a holding tank waiting to be picked up

The other fish were being sold too

Yes I am referring to the Acanthurus nigricans. After having one in a 75 gallon, why are you against it? Is it just the nigricans or all Acanthurus?

All Acanthurus, just because of the amount of swimming and room that they need. Mine had a growth spurt before I sold it, and it was really pacing the tank. It would take a second or two for it to get from one side of the tank to the other. Just think they would do better in a 6 or 8 foot tank. Should be noted that I currently have a purple tang in my 75, so I am not against tangs in that sized tank, but just feel that it would be too small for an Acanthurus long term.

Before the growth spurt it was fairly peaceful, but started getting a little bossy near the end.

Cool, thanks for the feedback Todd. I think I'll stand pat on the White Cheek, until I get a 125

Good deal, and once you do, I think you will be very happy. That fish is one of the main reasons I want a bigger tank. Was sad to sell it.
