hydor korilia nano un-sealed magnet problem?
It seems the magnet they use is not sealed at all. When I first purchased the pump this initially worried me, but alas i thought nothing of it as surely a company who specializes in making pump for aquaria would not put out a product that wasn't safe for aquarium use. I installed the pump and have been using it for about 3-4 months now.
Today I was doing some re-arranging and decided to take a look at the magnet out of curiosity. I didn't like what I found: ![]() this is the magnet that is on the inside of the aquarium. It has noticeably started rusting and it also has another areas of greyish discoloring. ![]() the magnet on the left is on the outside and as you can see it looks good as new. I haven't noticed anything adverse or abnormal lately, but I cant help but wonder If I were to leave this in my tank what could the long term affects be? This is only after about 3 months of use. Am i being overly cautious here or is this something that I should change and that hydor needs to address? I really cant see how having an exposed metal magnet in out reef tanks can be a good thing also i guess i should add that this is only on there nano version, as there larger pumps have sealed magnetic mounts. |

That's weird, the nanos I have seen have sealed magnets. Maybe yours was defective, or they changed the design.

Yeah, I would definitely contact the manufacturer (or even the vendor) before using that. Even if they said it was ok, I'd be leery of it.
