Question Xtreme 160 not skimming?

I just hooked up my Xtreme 160 skimmer this morning, and its not skimming anything. Does it take time for these skimmers to skim? It produces a lot of bubbles, but the bubbles at the very top are small and large size. I have the water level in the skimmer where the body/cup connect. Am I doing something wrong?

Should I leave the pipe open or closed? I've always used a Berlin skimmer, I'm new to this type.

It might take a week to break in, What you are describing though sounds normal.

I always leave mine fully open. When its breaking in it tends to overflow the cup randomly.

I would run the wedge pipe wide open, when breaking in a skimmer. The oils from the acrylic material need to be exhausted from the plastic and you need to get the good ole skimmer slime coat and you will be much better off.

You can hurry this process by running the skimmer in warm water and add vinegar to the water. This will help speed the breakin process!
