I have read garlic threads
So what does garlic do and should you feed it to a healthy tank? If so what type of garlic do people suggest?

I add 1-2 cloves when I make my frozen food. That gets fed to the fish every day.
The garlic can help prevent parasitic outbreaks such as Ich

I don't think it's necessary, though some people believe it is an immune system booster of sorts and helps to prevent ich. Fish do like it though, and it can be helpful if you have a fish that's not eating. I'll add a drop of "garlic xtreme" (drsfostersmith.com carries it) as well as Selcon on occasion to a frozen cube.

I have used garlic to treat Ich. I buy a small jar of minced garlic, drain the juice into a glass container and add some juice to flakes with each feeding. The food, which normally doesn't smell very good, really stinks, but the fish love it. I normally don't feed garlic otherwise.

I have used garlic extreme after putting my fish back in my display after treating for ich and there have been no signs of it since and the fish do seem to love it. I just drip a few drops on it and let it soak into the food for about an hour before feeding. all fish seem good and healthy I am going to continue to use it since there are no ill effects of using it
