400w lighting question! "PICS"

Quick question! I switiched over from 10k to 20k XM and I like the color. Only thing is is that I doesn't seem to cover as much area as say the 10k. Maybe it just an illusion cause of the softer color. What I was thinking is running another 400w pendant see pic and that should be plenty. I'm going SPS so from 4+ watts to 8+ should'nt hurt right? except my PG&E bill. Thanks ahead of time for your input.

What are the dimensions of your tank and what kind of pendant are you currently running?

Its all about the reflector. A Lumenarc/LM2 would do a 3' tank good.

I have seen the III's. Kind of a big eye sore. Do you know if they come in a enclosure at all? Painted?
Thanks

Glad you like it

The 20k is more dim than the 10km thus it appears that it "covers less", when in actuality it's the same.

You can get a black enclosure for the mini's, but I don't think they're available for the big ones. You could build a simple wood enclosure for the big one and paint it, though.

I just saw the mini's I'm waiting for a reply from reef exotics. Two of those mini's would do a nice job and then I could possibly do different lighting variations.
I coming to find out its cheaper in the long run to buy the good stuff. Looks like the lighting is figured out! Now for the Skimmer. Should have never bought the berlin!!!
Thanks for all your input!!!

One more question. Should I go with another 400w or go 250w?? Are there any benefits besides lower electric bill? And using 2 lights varying with with diferent kelvin ratings will you still keep a nice even color???
thanks to all who contributed!!!

My tank (58g, 36x18x21) is now lit with a single 400w 14k BLV and two 39w t5's in a custom luminarc style reflector.

Coverage is great from side to side and the t5's add a bit of side inward light. The BLV bulb is as blue as the 20k xm is purple. Much nicer bulb with higher par. Im acutally using one 10k t5 to even the color out do the "side inward" lighting.

If your looking for the best way to cover that area 2x250's is the easyest, but when factoring in the cost of bulbs and running them it winds up being easyer and cheaper to do this.

I think they just sell the hood for the mini's but I just saw the trick hangers for them. Two on those would look great. Thanks for the input.
