Time REALLY Flies!
I have had a reef tank for about 5 years now.
THE PROBLEM: I had real good anthelia growth in my main tank and in my prop tank. I started to notice that my anthelia (and zoo's) in my main tank starting dying and my mushrooms started to take off! The anthelia in the prop tank was still blooming well. THE DIAGNOSIS: Knowing that the anthelia was still growing well ruled out any problems wilth the water quality. The problem had to be with the lights. The MH (250 DE) was getting close to it's end life about 8 months and the VHO's (four T-12's 24" : 2 atinic and 2 daylight) were about 1 year old or so I thought. Looking up the reciepts for the part numbers, the VHO's were purchased in Nov of 2005. The MH was purchased in Jan of 2006. The lights were way past their prime!! WHAT WAS LEARNED: Keep track of light bulb and RO/DI cartitridge filter changes in a notebook. It only takes a couple of seconds. Time really does fly past quick and you (I anyway) lose track of what was done and when. It can keep you from losing your corals and make reefkeeping enjoyable! Jim Thanks for reading my rant!! |
