Film in Refugium
This isnt really a newby question but I figured I might get the fastest response here. I have made a 30 gallon long into a sump/ refugium. The order goes - Overflow - first chamber with skimmer - second chamber (the largest) Refugium with 3 inch aragonite sand bed seeded from the main tank with live rock rubble and cheato - to third chamber with return pump. The odd thing thats happening (which may in fact be normal) is that I am getting a film over the water in the fuge section. It is a clear film which has some bubbles in it. Normal? or should I do something about this.
All of my water paramaters are normal trites/trates 0 ammonia 0 skimmer is picking up skimmate well. I just did a water change (though this was occouring before the change too) The only different factor is the cheato. Previous to the cheato I had some feather algae that I picked up at the LFS. I heard cheato was better so I switched to that. Anyway hopefully someone can shed some light on this film that I am having. |

crank up the flow through it or just stir the surface up with your hand--I get that film once and a while its just lack of circulation
Every couple of weeks I crankup the flow through the refugium anyways just to change out the water better in it.

Thats what I was thinking (and would be the simplest to fix). I just didnt want it to be a chemistry problem or something worse, though all the LPS and Softies in my tank seem to be doing great.

picking cheato is a great choice--its grows like stink, gets dense and traps more debris, the ball can be rolled once a week and if you leave the light on 24/7 you will get great growth without it going sexual on you like caulerpa
