Luminarc III or Luminarc Stealths

what would be better retrofits to get? The stealths are a little more and use DE Bulbs, but i hear bulb selection isnt as good as SE. Also, how high do these need to be off the water, the standard 8"?

I want to go Electronic ballast, any other fixtures that compete with these?

I was kinda wondering the same thing. Seems people are getting bored with all these lighting questions. My past threads got very little responses. I just started another so I'll see if it gets any hits. The whole MH thing sure is confusing. Just curious, is this for the 90 or 50?

This would be for a 120 (48x24x24).

I guess i am more concerned about how high off the water they need to be, i heard some reflectors need to be over a foot off the water, i Dont want my canopy to be as tall as the tank.

I use the Mini's with DE bulbs, bottom of the reflector is about 7" off the water. I think they work better in the DE variety and there may be more bulb choices today but the better bulb choices are available in both forms. I run 10K XDE bulbs and the spread is awesome.

I also agree with not hacking up your canopy to use the LumenBrights. The claim is that they were designed for the aquarium hobby but not many in the hobby can mount them on the ceiling to get them to work correctly. To each his own I guess. :-)

Use the stealths or the mini's and you will be happy.
