cant get skimmer to skim dry

Ok now i just upgreaded my 28 gal to a 54 bow front. Before i did i had got the coralife super skimmer for the up grade but my old power head went so i put it in the old tank. It worked great got lots of thick gunk out. But now that i have it on the 54 i cant get it to skim any way but wet. I have tryed turning the air down as it said in the instructon manual. but its all the way down and still skimming wet. should i close the valve on the inlet for the water a lil and give it more air????
Im also useing a mag 7 for my return to the tank on the old tank i had a rio 1700. Dont know if that has anything to do with it. since im sure my sump is getting more flow thru it.

Have you tried running ro water down your venturi tube. It may be getting clogged and not pulling enough air and to much water.

adjust the water level in the skimmer down a little i believe. The water level is too far up the neck.

Yes this is how I adjust the "thickness" of my skimmate. Once you turn it down a little so it not so high in the neck. If you are not getting the skimming that you feel adaquite, then turn down the flow a little (this will cause you to have to readjust the level in the neck) I fur my air wide open... The more air the more bubles= better skimming.
