How do skimmers get rated ?

Is there any company that rates skimmers? I see many skimmers on the market, and while some look almost the same the tank size rate is different.

On average say if your tank is 100g then should you get a skimmer that is rated for 200g? 300g?

Well
I have a seaclone 150 on my 33g
i think the skimmer is rated for 100 gallons
now if i can get this berlin skimmer working (not sure of what one think it might be the turbo)
its rated for like 200g or something like that
i have no seen skimmers rated for small tanks so i think that a skimmer is rated by the maximum amount of water that it can keep clean...
i dont think that made any sense but it might have so ill post it anyways =D

I always recommend buying a skimmer that is at least double your tank size...You generally want it to do 4x your tank volume an hour

somone posted this on an earlier thread about skimmers.. it compairs different skimmers. it doesnt really explain really how skimmers are rated but it does give you a really good comparison table. http://www.aquariumcontrollers.com/files/skimmers.html

The only people that rate skimmers are the manufactures, and they all use different ways to rate them. the best thing to do is ask around here and see what people think about the skimmer in question.
