Flow rate through two 1" drains?
What flow rate will I get through dual overflows with 1" drains? What kind of return pump can I use for a 9' raise from the basement?
Thanks yt |

This is a great question that I would also like to learn.
You have to play with the numbers to get to your drain size on that calculator. What I dont understand is when I input 600 gph, which is widely recognized flow through a 1" u-tube, I get 1" drain as the result. I would have thought that a 2" drain would equal 1200 gph but instead the result is 2350 gph. Why is that? Also, I would think that a submerged drain would flow at a higher rate than a u-tube that has to fight the forces of gravity. |

two (2) 1" drains will give you 1200 GPH, not one 2" drain.

OK so I should expect 1200 GPH through my two 1" drains?

If you do the math for a 2" drain area you'll find the area is a bit bigger than 2 1" drains. thats why you can flow more threw a 2" drain

OK Now I can see it. Without doing the exact math yet, you can roughly fit four 1" circles into a 2" circle. So you have four times more flow space with a 2" drain than a 1" drain. Hence the 2350 gph rate of the 2" drain. Thanks.
