Flame Angel pick on any of these corals?
I am considering saving what was an excellent flame from my local petco. It has been there 3 weeks and though it is still eating constantly, it is starting to get a parasitic infection and is starting to fail in there system. I have a quarentine tank so I can quarentine him at first. My question is would he likely pick on any of these corals? Blastos ?, cauliflower, porites, hammer, pulsing zenia, star polyps, hairy green mushrooms, or leather coral? If anyone can give me their experiences with flames and corals I would appreciate it.
Thanks |

My flame angel nips at all my corals, but no harm is done. I think it is just checking if they are edible. I haven't seem it eats any of my corals and they are multiplying happily.

Do NOT save the fish, sounds cruel but let it die, or notify the store that you will no longer buy from them if they keep their livestock in horrible condition. Also, small angels will msot likely be 50/50 will picking. I got a cherub, and he picks every now and then, but doesnt tear up anything.

thecichlidpleco- why on Earth would you suggest he let it die.
The guys willing to quarintine. After that he might consider not to put him back, but the option should never be "let it die". Responsible reefkeeping is a must in this hobby!!

I dont think thats right to let it die! As well as telling them that you wont buy from them. It really doesnt do anything and most of the time its not the stores fault that this certain fish is sick. I have run into stores that have pretty bad looking live stock... they try to nurse it back but there is only so much that we as humans can do.
If you can get it back to normal again( I'm sure you can) it shouldn't touch any of those corals. I have had most of those in my tank and they thrive just fine. I do think that dwarf/pygmy angels have gotten a bad wrap because there are individuals that do pick at the corals. Once he's healthy again and you establish him in your tank you will be very happy with your selection of this beautiful species. |

Seriously! Go save that flame! Especially since you have QT! I have seen too many poor fish die from stores (even other reefers) due to poor conditions. Maybe you can get some money off for the fish, I'd save him regardless!

Okay eco freaks, if you force the business to take care of pets, then you would never have to save anything. imo go to a local fish store and buy a flame that is actually cared for and deserves to be bought.
Responsible reefkeeping is a must in this hobby!! -this does not include bailing out a chain that is known for poor care of fish. I have run into stores that have pretty bad looking live stock... they try to nurse it back but there is only so much that we as humans can do. -then why should he buy it, afterall he is also human.

Do not support big chain stores. Support the little guys who in most cases know what they are doing. It's the little guys that remember your name and if you are a regular, will often make it worth your while.

Thanks for the info. I will add a flame. Will check it out today and make sure it still looks salvagable. Hate to contribute to a store that does poorly with their fish (deathco), but not the fish's fault.
