Question To sump or not to sump?

I have another thread talking about the Fluval FX5. Now I am considering another option, a refugium typ sump with a skimmer. But I have no freakin clue what to look for, to get, what to get it going, and by the way the tank is not drilled. So what can I do? The tank is a 75 gal FOWLR, 70lbs of lr, 60 lbs of live sand, 5 fish, dozen or so hermits, and a few snails. Lighting is a coralife pc 260 watts. I want to add a few more fish and some soft corals. So what are my options?

I have a hang on overflow that leads to a precision marine refugium and an external skimmer under my 75 and like it a lot, and i think it is definitely worth it to have a sump.

well couple things to look at with the sump you have to adjust things every once in awhile but i had a mechanical filter on a old tank and the only thing i didnt like was replacing the filter cartridges / media but over all i like my sump/fuge i got going now

A sump/fuge gives you more gallons to make your system more stable, and skimmer is the only way to go for filtration!!!!!!

By all means go with a sump. When I fist started my tank I wanted nothing to do with a sump but after the battles with micro bubbles and the overall quality of the water. I switched to a hob overflow and a sump/refugium. It's the best move I have ever made.

Plus the sump gives you a place for equipment such as probes, thermometers etc...

Yep, sump all the way. Just get a nice hot overflow that IS A UTUBE, don't get a ctube that relies on a pump. They just get a used tank and add some baffles to it. Shouldn't cost a ton. And don't have to much flow down there.
