Equipment Help

Hey everyone,

I am going to start a new tank. I am new to the hobby and beginning to like it more and more. I have been doing it for only a month now and have realized that in order to accomplish a good reef tank. I need to get something bigger. So I think I am going to get a 50 gallon tank. What brand names of equipment are good and what should I be looking for

Thanks in advance,

-zd

First it's best to decide what kind of equipment you'd want...for example...do you want a hang-on protein skimmer or would you have one in a sump?

The larger the tank the less maintance and more cost and smaller needs more maintance and will cost less with both haveing the bulk cost in the setup.
So your budget and dedication should be considered.

I have only used the Super Skimmer 120 in my 75 gallon but with great succes and can be used as a HOB or in fuge setup.

As for stock go slow.Wait for cycle then add some CUC and wait a wekk or two and add a fish or coral then wait and add more CUC and a fish or coral and all while monitering water quality. Try and keep a balance with fish that are usefull for tank health and MB a few for eye cnady and enough CUC to not starve or not able to control waste.

The skimmer that demon recommends may be good for you, but you should really decide whether you will or won't have a sump at the ealiest stage in your project.

I am not quite sure. I think the benefits of one out weigh the non-benefits. Where is a good place online to buy equipment.

thanks,

-zd

The benefits of a sump definitely outweigh any drawbacks...In fact...I don't know of any drawbacks, other than the obstacle of lack of space or some other configuration problem. If you can have one, you definitely should.

Go to the top of your RC screen and click on Sponsors. There are a lot of reliable vendors there. I usually use either Marine Depot or DrsFosterSmith for general purchases, though there are others that you can chose.
