Is this skimmer better than the one I have?

I currently have a 75 gallon FOWLR, about 75lbs rock, 100+lbs sand. The current inhabitants are a two false percula clowns, and two chromis, and a green brittle star. I recently lost my golden headed sleeper goby. Only thing I can think of was a spike in nitrates(60 ppm) Everything else was fine, and he showed no signs of illness. He just started hiding much more, and eating less, and then eventually vanished. I'm sure the snails and the starfish took care of the rest, I moved all of my rock and couldnt find him anywhere. Anyways, I currently have a Bermuda Aquatics Rogue wave skimmer with a Rio 1100 pump. The thing can never get dialed in, it always seems fine and then it just starts to overflow. I do not have a sump, and I am thinking about switching to a better skimmer to keep my water perfect. I checked aquacave and found these HOB's. I need a HOB because I don't have a sump.

Any thoughts?

The second one because it has a surface skimmer (really useful if you don't have one).

I have the octo 300f which is twice the skimmer as the 100f and a rogue in the same 75g tank and the rogue pulls out 3-5x's what the octo does. I've never had a hot pull so much crud out.

Haywood, how do you have it set up. Could you take a pic of it running? Does your water fluctuate alot in your tank? I'd like to see your water level in your skimmer.

Those trates are getting pretty high, but still not enough to kill a fish imo. Inverts and corals yes, but not so much a fish. I'd do some good 20% water changes to bring it down to around 20. The rio 1100 is also a terrible pump to use with the rogue. A mag 3 or a mag5, which i suggest makes the skimmer a monster pulling around 30scfh.

I had the Bermuda Rogue. One thing I found was if your salt levels where a tad to high or low I would have the same problem your having. Otherwise this is one of the best skimmers you can buy IMO. I used it on my 46gl seahorse tank. Recently had to upgrade the skimmer on one of my larger tanks and went with an AquaC EV400. All I can say is WOW.

if you re looking to upgrade you re skimmer get a deltec mce600 hob...in my opinion the top dog of hob skimmers and not finicky...i have used deltec hob skimmers before i added a sump,
or add a sump and get a euro reef or deltec.

Yeah i've done a two water changes since the trates were tested. First time I changed 4 gallons, second time I changed 6 gallons. I did this over the period of a week. I'll get some pics up of the skimmer shortly.
