Pictures of tank 'lids'

I am still in the set up stage of my 125g. I have the lighting hanging from the ceiling over the tank. I have read several places to not use a glass lid because of trapping heat, etc. So I seen where I should use eggcrate, but I can not picture in my head how this would look. If you would be standing in front of my tank you would be able to see the top of it...wouldn't egg crate look kind of tacky?? Can you spray paint the egg crate so it would blend maybe or is there another suggestion? Pictures would help a tremendous amount!!

TIA
~Monica

I think my egg crate top looks great. Cheap, efficient, the pride in doing it myself, I think the egg crate top is one of the best tips I have gotten about my tank[IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG]

Oh, and I did paint it black. Use spray paint specifically made for plastics. The name escapes me now. Looking at those pictures I better start cleaning the salt of my top and lights.

I do like your eggcrate top. I think it looks good painted. I was just picturing white eggcrate and it just wasn't doing it for me! it looks silver in the pictures...but I guess it is black. The Krylon Fusion spray paint I would think would work. I used that to paint the back of my tank. Thanks for the pics!!

Looks great ugluk but black does absorb heat i think.Im sure it wont effect it though. Also the ceiling light difusers work well.

I keep eggcrate white because it it more reflective than black. Dont need it absorbing any of my precious light

I used window screen frames and used 1/4" plastic mesh black pond netting in them. Good air exchange, keeps the jumpers in the tank, doesn't block any light and it was cheap and easy to do.

I tried the silver but it's chipping off into my tank. Not sure if it all does that, but mine sure does.

I think there would still be a problem for those of us that have HOB equipment or returns coming into the tank. Great idea though and I'd love to try it if I could work around my returns.
