peguin 300 bio wheels

The bio wheels quit spinning and I cleaned all around them does that mean I need new ones? The LFS told they last a year and its only been 6 months.

Yes, remove them but only if you are using enough live rock to give you bio-filtration.

Oops! Not to threadjack - but I think I misinterpreted your advise you guys here gave me earlier.

I have a biowheel filter, and was told that instead of ditching it, use carbon in it. So I removed the FILTERS and threw carbon in...

...So I guess I should remove the WHEELS and LEAVE the carbon bags in the chamber, so I have added flow, and some carbon?

Right you remove the wheel not the filter, keep the filter for chemical media and water circulation.

Why do you need money to remove the bio-wheel? if you do not need to replace it with anything and you do not need to install carbon or anything right away.
Do not trow away the wheeel. Pull it out of the filter and clean the wheel by submerging it in a bucket full of water and a cup of bleach over night, rinse well in the moring and let it dry several days and store it in a plastic bag just in case you need it in the future or you happen to want to sell the filter complete. If you have live rock the bio-wheel does not need any replacement or aditional equipment.
