Diseased clown fish
I have a tomato clown fish that has a whitish fungus covering that extends from his eye to about his midsection on his dorsal fin, skips a 1/2 inch, and then continues to his tail. It is not ich. It is so light and the fish so red, that a picture does not adequately show the covering. Any thoughts on a diagnosis and treatment are welcome.

Clowns can sometimes get anemonefish disease (brooklynella hostilis). It's similar to ich, but forms white patches instead of white spots.

Agreed, definitely sounds like brooklynella. I'm not up-to-date on the latest trends in treatment, I've always used a prolonged formalin bath for brooklynella in clownfish. 20 drops 37% formalin to 1 gal of saltwater. Let fish in bath for 1 hour. DO NOT ADD THE FORMALIN TO THE MAIN TANK! Must be dosed in a small hospital tank and airlines MUST be added to the tank before adding the formalin as formalin can/does decrease the oxygen content of the water.
You may want to check out & search on the clownfish forum of RC or re-post your question there for more current/up to date info on treatment. Tom |
