Serious Advice.

I have a 46 gallon bow tank. Up and running for 5 months with no problems. Penguin 350 bio wheel, bak pak 2 skimmer, jbj submariner uv sterilizer/clarifier 7 watts. ph 8.2, amonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 20, salt 1.022. a lil over 100pound of tonga and fiji live rock. I know im over stocked. But my fish look fine and the water tests come out good. I do weekly tests. I have 1-3inch clown trig, 1-3inch humu trig, 1-3inch blue spot puffer, 1-4 inch dog face puffer, 1-3inch yellow puffer, 1=3inch lion fish and 1 baby snow flake eel. Ive had all these fish for the past 1 month and 3 weeks in my tank all doing great. But i know there going to get bigger, whats the minium size tank i can upgrade to for all of them and how overstocked am i, why havent i had any problems. Also, do you recommend me taking out the penguin 350, since i have 100 pounds of live rock in the tank. Whats the difference if i do or dont and the jbj submariner uv sterilizer, is that good enough for my tank or should i get a stronger uv. Has anyone use this product. What else equipment wise do you suggest. I just have a fowler tank no reef or corals. But when i do upgrade im hoping to turn the 46 gallon into a reef tank. Very expensive. More then i thought.

To Reef Central

I wouldn't remove the Penguin, since the tank is heavily stocked. The fish should continue to grow, and I'd probably get a 120g system or so and prune the fish count a lot.

Welcome to RC!!
If you keep all those fish. You will need a 180+ in the future.

Just an fyi, but clown triggers can get to be bigger than a football and kill all the fish in its tank. If you got rid of the clown trigger a 180 would be perfect for what you have.

I agree that you will need at the least a 120 gal tank in the future.
I notice you are getting a sump--at that point take out 50 lbs or so of the live rock and put it in there. Make sure the flow rate is very slow through the sump--closer to 5 times the total water colume in gph.
by doing this the fish will have more swimming room and the overall water column still gets the filtration provided by the live rock

Thank you for the response. Im going to upgrade to a 100g tank, and turn this 46 gallon into a reef tank. The thing is its going to 2 to 3 months in my calculations are right. I got rid of the yellow box, for the simple fact for the toxic poisens it releases when its stressed. I have a 2, 3 inch humu and clown trig, 4 inch dog face, 3 inch blue spot puffer, and a 3 inch lion fish, and lil baby snow flake eel. ive had them in there since jan, can they all make in there for another 2 to 3 months, untill i upgrade. If so any suggestions on testing or add ons for the mean time. Also, anyone know anything about the jbj 7 watt uv you place in the tank. I know if you turn the knob to the left, it suppose to kill all the parasites and if you turn it to the right its suppose to kill all bactarie and algae, do i keep turning it every other day. Thank you for all your help.
