reef safe starfish

I use to have a chocolate chip starfish which lived many years. I know they are not reef safe. Any suggestions on a reef safe starfish for a 29gallon?

I think even a Formia star....but there very small. I think that they only get about the size of a silver dollar.

I have been looking at one but everyone has told me that they are very hard to take care of. They dont do well to changing salinity or water conditions. They wont last long & will die anywhere from 3 months to a year.?????

I still wanta get one...just dont want to kill the poor little dude

Green brittle stars can be kept in a reef aquarium as long as you keep them WELL FED. If you dont and they are really hungry, they will find out other sources of food to satisfy their hunger......In other words weak or sleeping small fish will become his targets.

How they will do that is that they will arch themselves up on their legs in a cave-like area in your reef. When weak fish or fish needing to sleep stroll in where he is waiting, he will quickly swoop down and subdue the poor sap and devour it.

I have had a green brittle in my reef since day one. He is great. I do however keep him well fed. He gets raw, washed shrimp about every 3 days. He has not bothered anyone in the tank and is actually the inhabitant that everyone looks for first.

They are reef safe, but do very poorly in an aquarium.
