RO/DI question

Could someone please explain to me how the ro/di system works? How do you set it up? Do you have to tap into the house water lines or anything like that? Thanks.

sweeeeet! Thanks a lot. That answered just about everything for me. I know I need one and I really dont want to lug gallons of water from the store all the time. I dont really have anyplace I can install it permanently. Could I maybe store it some place and only take it out and use the faucet diverter when I need to make water? I could do that in my bathroom.
