Koralia # 4 not as good as #3

Ok I just got my order from Dr fosters and I orderd the #4 kpralia after putting it in the water it seems to have half the power the #3 has

I bought it to push the water across the top of my tank and honestly It is not reaching the whole tank and my #3 does

anyone have one #4 is mine defect or are they that way

Here's a test you can try.

My k4 will pull a whirlpool on the surface if its any less that 4" from the surface.

If you read the instructions when you first put it into your tank, face the opening up to release any trapped air, that could be the problem.

I agree with BLKTANG my 2 4's will pull a whirlpool down 6 inches or so, at least.

I like koralias but think there better for addition or spot flow. I like a powerhead that has a flow control knob and duckbill tip for dirrection control. Then pointing them at the surface isnt a good way to use them.
I didnt read all replys but i wonder how many and what size powerheads you have in there now?And was there a reason you wanted them pointed toward the surface?

ours rattle all the time, we just assume its because of a bigger propeller???? or thought we might not have put that lil black washer back in the right way maybe???

our only pull a whirlpool down if theyre maye 3-4" below surface

another thing to remomber with korallias is that they dont really push water in any direction, its kinda all over the place.

i have mine at about15 inches from the bottom pointing across the tank and they move the sand on the bottom.

are you using them on an interval timer--they are not designed to run on them--that's usually when they rattle

nope, they're on 24/7. we can see both of them slightly moving back and forth from the propeller moving. only hoguht would be that washer, anyone know if the side that has a nipple on it goes up or down?

I put mine in and faced it across the tank about 2 inches from the top I have it on the side and it is blowing the water but from putting myhand in front of it and on front of the #3 the 3 is way more powerful

SO i am not sure if it is a defect I assume I will have to call dr fosters?

Well I justhad my wife stick her hand in the tank and put one in front of the 4 and then the #3 she agrees the 3 is more powerful But the #4 is more widespread So maybe they are supposed to?
The #3 has a smaller hole so maybe it gets out faster But I will call

Thats interesting...

I have 2 Koralia #4's on my 75 and 2 Koralia #3's sitting in storage. I bought the #4 to increase my flow and its definitely more powerful than the #3's

What do people recommend for a 55?

I saw one poster saying they're getting 2 x 4's for a 55. I thought that sounded like too much.

A pair of 2's (600goh) = 1200 gph or 20x+ water overturn. That sounds right to me/
