Ozone Reactor
Does anyone know where you can buy an Ozone Reactor?
There's one company in NY/NJ (Who's name is escaping me) That makes one, but I've e-mailed them a half dozen times with no reply... I just don't want to pump O3 thru my Deltec, and want something dedicated, with a good carbon filter, etc. If you can even make one out of an existing product, I'm into that, too, let me know. Thanks! -Andy |

I've had the same problem with finding a good ozone reactor...I just don't think there's such available that's geared toward hobby use.
I have a great Ozotech unit that I was running through my Euro-Reef skimmer. But after impellar failures on the Sedra pumps, and upgrading to the much better but much more costly ER-modded Eheim pumps, I'm reluctant to do this any longer (not to mention I really need to make that skimmer body last, now). I think the best option may be to acquire a small and inexpensive (read: disposable) skimmer to be placed in the sump and utilized as the O3 reaction chamber.

I have been using this DIY one for several months and it seems to work fairly well.
It is kind of tall around 42", but does have a fairly small footprint. Basically water enters at the bottom, exits at the top of the taller chamber, runs down the 2" tube into the smaller chamber which contains carbon. The water flows up thru the carbon and then exits the top of the smaller chamber and back to the sump. Ozone is introduced via a wooden airstone at the bottom of the large chamber. I also filled the chamber with bio balls in an effort to create more contact time. As well, at the top of the large chamber is a removable cup filled with carbon for air filtration. Fed by a maxijet 1200 the dwell time is around 45 seconds. BTW-The large chamber is 4" pvc and the smaller which contains the carbon is 3", should have made them both 4". Steve |
