MH DE bulb Question

I was wondering which is the propper way to place the bulb in the sockets
Should i have the nipple thing face up towards the fixture or down towards the water?

The nipple that is pointed out is the outer bulb nipple. The position of the outer nipple does not affect lamp performance. Some lamps like the one pictured has the inner bulb nipple sideways and in this case the position does not matter. If the nipple is vertical then the nipple should be up.

Generally you want the inner bulb nipple to point horizontal to up. Some lamps are only recommended up. This assures a more evenly heated arc tube (inner bulb). The nipple can act as a cool/cold spot if pointing down and can affect lamp operation (lamp life, color and light output).
