Lawnmower Blenny Supplimentary Diet
What sort of things do you guys supplement your Lawnmower Blenny's diet with? He's got enough hair algae for the time being, he's definitely not starving, but I want to put some other things in there that he'd likely eat.
I've tried Nori, he's taken a nibble or two, but hasn't really dug into it. Is there some sort of pellet or frozen item that they tend to like? |

Try pieces of spirulina discs. You'll have to target feed to get it interested at first.
Did you rubberband the nori to a piece of live rock rubble for training purposes ?

I've been trying various foods and I've seen him pick at some. But he only really eats the pellet food that is for algae eating fish. I get ones that say they have vitamins added.

No, I didn't try putting the Nori on a rock, I never heard of that... I'll give that a shot now. I'll have to find some of those spirulina disks to try. I haven't seen them, but I haven't been looking either.

I like to add selcon and boyds vitachem to my fishes foods, i have seen great improvement in color and general health in everyone. I feed new life spectrum marine pellets soaked in a bit of each. New life spectrum alone is an awesome food, i have been using it for years.

You can soak the nori in it as well, just go easy with it and keep an eye on your skimmer if you have one. |

For all coral and fish a well mixed diet is best. Do you see him eat the hair algea? And did you use the green nori or the red?

I know you mean well bud, it shows. I have not used the red because i only recently got a tiny yellow tang and hes not so sure about the green yet. I read that the red seaweed falls apart alot faster than green and is for fish already trained to eat alge from a clip type setting. Time will tell i guess, its my first tang.

I've only tried the green at this point. And I fully agree, mixed diet is the way to go. I just want him eating something other than Hair Algae... and yes, I've seen him eat it like crazy! He must eat 1/4 cup of hair algae a day.

Well, he did eat a green sponge-like thing... or at least taken a few bites out of it. More of an encrusting coral than a sponge I suppose.
