yellow tang weird behavior

My yellow tang started something weird this weekend. He is flipping himself upside down almost and scratching the top of his head, just above his eyes? The area is looking a little whiteish colored he has done it so much. I have had him for 2 years. Ick has never been an issue in my tank at all. He shows no other signs of any health related issues. Any educated thoughts?

No signs of Lateral Line Disease? Raised redish bumps of the lateral line? I ask because mine does this and has lateral line disease. I have tried everything to cure him. It comes and goes. All in all though he seems fairly happy.

Your are right on with what I was thinking, but yes there are no signs at all. I appreciate your response though, I can really tell you thought about it. I need that, thanks.

one more thought, and I am still very new at marine keeping but is it possible that he is trying to free food particles from the rocks to eat. Like any algae or left over food from the previous feeding. You are welcome.

My tang was doing the same thing, and it did end up being Ick. There was no signs of it for like 1 month, and then boom it was all over it, unless that was a biproduct of him scratchin his head....

I hope it isn't ick. That would be weird after 2 years of him being healthy. At this point though nothing would surprise me I guess.

Have you added anything to your tank recently?
