Fission Skimmer
Just received my skimmer, put it together, tried running it in my 29g and all I am getting is foam and water (more water than foam)in the collection cup.I understand that there is a "break-in" period but I am emptying the cup every 5 min. What am I doing wrong?

thats usually the opposite of what the break in period does. do you have any riser tubes or the ability to restrict or allow more flow?

Everything seems to be kosher. Maybe a defect! Will try again. Thanks useskaforevil.

Are you talking about the nano skimmer? If so, thats about all it does. They are worthless pieces of junk.

I purchased the skimmer from Dr Foster & Smith it is a Fission Power Skimmers by Current USA
* Powerful protein skimmer offers superb removal of dissolved organics * Paddlewheel impeller moves up to twice the water volume of needle wheels * Creates a vortex of air and water microbubbles to clean large aquariums If this is a nano it did'nt say it was. All you RC pros out there, take a look at it and let me know if I wasted my $. I wanted a hang on or a in sump all in one version. Not going to hang it, it looks pretty tacky. I will wait until I get my sump set up. Can I run tap water in it to try and adjust the prob?

The one you have is not the nano and has had pretty good reviews here on RC. I had looked at getting that one myself but was told by someone who had one that it was rather finicky as to dialing in the needle wheel. So I went with something else. So you need to play with the dial for the needle wheel it to get the bubbles just right. There should be instructions as to where the level of the bubbles should be in the throat of the collection cup and this can be adjusted up or down with the dial.

The dial is called the "water level flow control valve". If the water level is set too high all you'll get in the collection cup is water, you'll have to play with it to find the optimal level to get good foam.

Amoore311- that is exactly the one that I have. I will try adj the water level flow control valve to get it to run a little better. Can I use tap water just to adj it? Don't really want to put it back in the tank. Also does the submersible water pump have to be adj in any way?
