Not sure how I did it!

My wife was getting irritated with me always looking at fish stuff on line and the money I have and will spend on getting everything ready, buying the fish, and the maintenance (hence the signature).

I told her I was going to make the live rock to save money and that I was going to go with FOWLR instead of getting corals...again, to save money.

Her response knocked me off of my feet!! She told me that I should go ahead and buy real live rock because it will be better quality, and that I should get corals because it will look so much better...even after she saw the prices!!

I was in shock! I have the "go ahead" to spend the money to do this right! I'm still going to be as frugal as I can, while taking good care of the aquarium of course.

Id start with FOWLR then move to corals after you get the hang everything else.

That's the plan. I think that would help keep her interested also. As she sees the fish (if I ever get this thing started) and gets to like them...then sees me add more beauty to it with corals little by little down the road.

Should work with the kids also!

She was really into my freshwater aquariums I had back in the day, so I guess it's not too much of a stretch to see her getting into this one a little also (even though this one is more expensive).

I like this hobby for the fish anyway...not for show. But having a nice looking tank in the living room is really cool, don't get me wrong.

I'm not even sure if I want to go with corals to tell the truth...that idea will have to grow on me as well.

Love this post! Free bumps for more detail.

My wife gave me a budget but she never asked about the current/ never final bill (about 150% over budget). I got pi$$ed when i had to pay ridiculous retail the other night on a pump due to a little "glitch". She told me to quit worrying about it. YES, DEAR!

My only advice, at this stage, is to plan your fish population carefully. You'll want to make sure your FOWLR fish are "reef safe" for your eventual conversation. Do your research before you buy. Most of the LFS employees (the less honest or knowledge) will sell you just about anything you want.

As frugal as I can is getting up in the 2K range. I don't think she realizes I spent that much yet...just wait until the stuff shows up in the mail. I'm sure the question will come up as to how much I spent on it when it gets here.

My wife thinks I trade for all my frags even up, "Yeah baby, this guy was so cool he gave me a six headed neon green frogspawn for three yellow polyps." Actually as long as she gets a say in aquascaping she's cool.

Coming from a "wife's" point of view, I think you guys are funny. I am sure my husband does the same thing to me. He tells me not to look at bills and to keep peace, I DON'T. LOL! I love my tank though. It's all the money spent on ps3 games like madden that eats at me!
