depth of water in sump for skimmer
I have a ASM G3 skimmer in a model 4 sump w/ 6" water depth. For some reason I cannot put the venturi tube inside the other tube without the cup overflowing. I currently have the tube balancing on the other tube with the sponge in the middle. I was reading that 8"-12" of water depth is optimal but is 6" ok? If I add more water will this fix my problem. Please help

my tube can not be inserted all the way into the tube that connects it to the elbow going into the skimmer (where the sponge is). when I insert the tube the skimmer will overflow the cup. My water level is 6" and I understand that it is supposed to be 8" minimum. I need to know if the water level is causing my skimmer to act this way.

I figured out my problem with the skimmer. I had started the skimmer with the tube pulled all the way out in the initial position shown on the diagram, I pushed the tube all the way down and then slowly started pulling the tube up and it works like a charm.
Well, I feel kinda dumb now, but in my defense this skimmer came with no instructions. Anyway all is good!
