I hope you agree there is a difference between live rock and the skeletal hull of a stony coral that appears to have been out of water for quite some time.

And that stuff doesn't look "live" at all. It just looks like a bleached stony coral that you might find in tourist shops. Not that it won't colonize bacteria over time. But right now I see no signs of life on it at all.

And for what its worth, even a dead piece of stony coral that size is probably worth $150. Illegal now in a few states.

Imanz- you have a great looking tank there, but it looks so new to me that I doubt you have cycled at all. Are you testing? I wouldn't try any corals whatsoever yet. It doesn't look like you have enough organic matter there to even keep a small clean up crew alive. How long has this been set up?

I can't know for sure bud, I'm just telling you what it looks like to me. Some people throw stuff in the water for a few weeks and call it LR. Just keep testing. If you are getting ammonia readings then you have not cycled, and those fish are in jeapordy.

for 1 month now, it was cycled at 8 days, first the amonia was up, then the nitrates, then it all went away, and the guy at the store told me it was cycled, Then i asked him how come it didnt take 4 weeks like everyone elses, and he said that since i have so much live sand and live rock in there compared to the tank, it boosted the time up alot.- Btw, people are saying that that rock isnt live, but the guy told me that it was a cured live rock, is it "live" and bacteria full or no?

Well, yeah but live rock is basically dead coral.

If you are truly cylced, then I suspect it was more due to your live sand.

Lots of people use skeletal hulls in their tanks - you just see them more in fish only tanks. There is nothing wrong with what you have, but I sincerely doubt it has the filtering capacity of real LR. It looks pretty now, but soon it will turn a brownish color.

In 2 days, neighbor using camra for his project for collage. Freaking taking pictures of flowers, how random.. Btw, how do you feed corals? Do you put all the chemicals in the water, or do you spray it on the actual coral, the guys keep telling me to put it on the coral, so what do people with those big tanks ddo?
